Week #4 Wikkis

The exploration of Wikkis is very interesting. They have so much potential for the sharing of ideas and instruction. I looked at quite a few and particularly enjoyed Library Success : A Best Practices Wikki because there was so much practical advice available from librarians who had direct experience to share. I thought it was brilliant.
Here at the State Library we could use it as a collaborative tool to also share ideas and information. Having our processes, our corporate knowledge and our new thinking in a place where anyone can contribute at any time would be very useful. Of course, there would need to be a moderator (s) - which would be a big job.
Clients could also give feedback on what they discover on our website, add information they have to share (eg correct names of authors) and share their research together. We all know how the clients in family history love to share their knowledge - well this is one more way they could do so.

Week 3 Flickr

These are two pictures I chose to illustrate the value Teamwork. I liked the contrast in the images. It suggests to me that no matter who we are, we all have a part to play.

Back again

It's some months later and despite all good intentions I simply ran out of time. But now I'm going to make every effort to progress.
To be honest, I hit the wall when I tried to download photos from Flickr to my blog. Today I will renew the effort and hope for success.

Getting Started

Well, today is the the start of blogging for me. It's a very new venture and I hope to move from the trembling uncertainty (actually terror!) with which I usually approach any online transactions, to a new feeling of confidence, competence and enjoyment. I hope so!

It has been interesting to have a look at how other blogs are being used. I thought the British Libary and "Turning the Pages" was really impressive. The immediacy of clients' responses and their enthusiam show that this is a very exciting way to reach out and share the wonders of our collections and to hear back that people are enjoying and appreciating them too.

I'm looking forward to an interesting journey as I venture forth. It's a big jump for me into the unknown. Here goes as I post this ....!
